These programs will recover your pictures off the drive if it still runs even if the file system is screwed up.

Either put the drive into an external enclosure or install the drive on a secondary controller before attempting to recover any files.

There are a couple things that I would try. Both require a little tech knowlege.
On the cheap I would pull the crashed hard drive and install it in another working computer as a slave drive. There's a good chance that in the other system you will be able to read your hard drive and recover the files.
A little money. Buy a new hard drive and set install it in your system again setting your old drive as the slave drive. Install Windows on your new drive and attempt to read and recover from your old drive.

There are many programs you can try at home to see if you can recover items from a crashed disc. Just go to google and type in hard drive recovery software. See if you can find trialware or a demo so you can use it just once and not have to pay.

What can you not do with your hard drive? What if any messages do you get when you try to read or write to this drive.
The software RESTORER2000, $39.00, CAN RESTORE YOUR DATA to a different drive if your drive just gives you error messages.
You have to say something about the drive other than it crashed!

If it won't spin up (no whirring sound), pull it out of the case (please unplug everything first and touch the metal side of the case to discharge static electricity), then put it between your hands, like your are praying and move your arms up and down really hard. I have had lots of luck getting them to spin up one more time to remove files before they crash for good.
If it is making scratching noises - you are basically hosed - sorry.
If you are unable to get to your OS, but it is spinning up, then try a data recovery program or go to a professional to try to recover the data - and it wouldn't cost more than $100 to try.
Best of luck!

may be. Attach it as a secondary hard disk in a computer and try.
If this does not work. Give your hard disk to a hardware dealer to do the same.
