Is it more like a tingle? Does it happen after a few minutes of sucking, each time in BOTH breasts. If so, that could be normal milk letdown.

However, you may have either a crack in the nipple, or you may be getting a yeast infection on your nipple. Is it like someone is poking you with hot needle? That would be a crack.

Or more like a burning stinging throughout a part of one breast? That would be more likely to be yeast. Does your son have any white patches in his mouth? Has he been cranky and pulling away from the breast? Does he have a yeast diaper rash? Have you had a yeast infection recently or are you prone to them? You should contact your OB and/or a lactation consultant. Both things are easily treated.

Totally normal. It's called the "letdown reflex." When your baby starts sucking your breasts "open up" and let a lot of milk out. You feel the stinging when it happens. Some women have a lot of pain during letdown, some don't feel anything at all. As your baby gets older and your milk production regulates to his needs, the stinging may decrease a bit.

if he is ur first baby, u sure will get that sting! for me, tears used to ooze down my eyes, when i start feeding my boy in the beginning. it was ok only after some 2 months. so nothing to worry. if u can't bear that pain, there r ointments in the market. get them with the help of ur doc!!!
