I can only take so much sometimes. How you hold Blue Velvet up high at all as a top 10 movie of the 80s is beyond comprehension. The movie is a shining example of botched art. Lynch started making something abstract and beautiful and in the end creative something dull, boring, and abstract.

I disagree with a lot of your listings, but this takes the cake.

I've got four that I think need to be mentioned.

Gandhi -- thought about the movie for months

Amadeus-- just liked it

Mississippi Burning- I felt guilty being white even though I strive to be fair and just-- think I got a better understanding of racial issues

Top Gun - not sure in eighties but launched home video industry
