Ok my fatther owns an excavation business and anyways one day as in like 2days ago my father went to a client to see what was happening with his over due payments, as he pulled up in the drive he heard a fight going on so he was kinda unsure on knocking but he did anyway. The lady (the mans wife )said shhhhhhhh someone is outside they will know whats going on. So the man who owes dad money comeout side and he was all frustrated so dad said have i come at a bad time and the man began to cry infront of him bursting out that his wife had kept a 4month secret from him. It was that his 11 yearold daughter was pregnant to this 17 yearold guy.

My question is Over here in Australia the government is giving new mum's 4000 per child to help them out but the thing is up here were wer live its got so out of control that almost 45% of teens are either pregnant or having an abortion. Ithink that there should be some sort of control on the money. What do you think about the issue

I THINK THIS ISSUE HAS JUST GOTTON OUT OF HAND!!!! MANY PARENTS NEED IT BUT ARE RESPONSIBLE WHEN GETTING PREGNANT BUT THEN THERE ARE SOME WHERE THEY JUST TAKE IT FOR GRANTED!!! I THINK PEOPLE ONLY SEE THE FREE MONEY SIDE OF THINGS BUT DON'T ACTUALLY REALISE THAT THE MONEY GIVEN IS ACTUALLY OUT THE DOOR IN A MATTER OF A MONTH BECAUSE HAVING A CHILD THESE DAYS IS ESPECIALLY NOT CHEAP!!! I DON'T THINK THERE IS MUCH THAT THE GOVERNMENT CAN DO BECAUSE THEY CAN'T REALLY NOT GIVE ANY MONEY TO A TEENAGER WHO IS PREGNANT BUT WILL GIVE IT TO A 30 YEAR OLD. I GUESS UNFORTUNATLY WE ARE STUCK WITH THIS ISSUE AND MOST PROBABLY CANNOT CHANGE IT!!! ANYWAY SEX HAS NOW BECOME A PEER PRESSURE AND COOL THING TO DO THESE DAYS!!! IF YOU DON'T DO IT THEN YOU ARE NOT COOL OR POPULAR. TEENS DON'T KNOW THE REAL MEANING OF IT AND WHEN THEY FINALLY DO THEY WILL REGRET IT!!

Government does it to encourage birth rate, there is nothing wrong with it - it's hard on working mothers to get time of work without money coming in to have a baby. Whats wrong with this picture is the way it's administered, so money is given instead of vouchers for specific baby products which would really serve the purpose the 'baby money' was introduced. Another wrong with this picture is that yes, in Australia 17 yo can be charged and is a pedophile, as 11 is sooooo under age for sex...he's a child abuser. Your father should report it to authorities, and find a counseling service for the man and his family... girl will have to either abort with parents and doctors permission (depending on the state laws), or the baby will have to be put for adopion or her parents will have to co-parent their own grandchild...

But one definite is that Government should change the way money is distributed, so it doesn't encourage teen pregnancies, but helps responsible adults to have a child without financial hardship.
Just an opinion of the fellow Aussie...

First of all, my heart goes out to the fellow whose daughter has managed to conceive at 11. It's appalling, and I'm so sorry for him.

As to the government dishing out money for new mothers, my first question would have to be, why? No government gives away money just to be nice. Is the government of Australia trying to encourage the birthrate? That would be my first guess.

If there is a surge in teenage pregnancies...always bad news...perhaps the government could be persuaded to limit the 4000 handout to married women?

We have the same problem in America, you know; it's as if all that time, money and effort lavished on Sex Education has been wasted, because kids STILL don't know how to prevent pregnancies.

It's terribly sad, and I'd so like to see someone make it stop.

My kindest wishes go to your father's client.

If young kids are stupid enough or not supervised properly by their parents and become pregnant there is not much the government can do. The baby bonus is to go towards the cost of having and initially raising a child - you cannot punish all the people that ARE doing the right thing for the few who are basically morons.

In my country that 17yo boy would be charged with rape plus child endangerment and thrown in jail.

As to the rest of the teens - seems like there is a real lack of good sex education in your area. The more educated a teen is about sex, the less likely they are to start having it at a young age and/or get pregnant. If the parents won't educate the kids, then the money should go to people who will.

I have another question - how much money is being spent in your country to educate teens about pregnancy, birth control, and parental responsibility? Holy Mackeral! I hope there is a little more constraint to that law than what you've written.

The 17-year old is going to jail! In the US, 34% of all births are illegitimate. Unfortunately, if it wasn't for family assistance, the kids and babies in these poor households would go hungry. It's not the kids fault they were born to such selfish parents. So, as caring loving people, we can't forgo the kids even if their parents are dirt bags!

The government should immediately STOP handing out this FREE money.

The government will be OUT OF BUSINESS if this continues on. Where in the world are they getting the FUNDING to keep this going? WHO in their RIGHT mind would vote this in?

i have read of this...and i don't know what i think. it seems to be encouraging young women to have children, when they might not be ready for the responsibility. i think the government should do a study on this...and rethink this...there are plenty of mothers who could use the extra money, but there are also mothers who could take advantage of this plan.
