The car's been running bad and then it starting smoking out of the radiator. I was on the highway, and it was only 39 miles back to my house, so I went for it. It eventually stopped smoking, but the engine got noisy and died. A guy stopped and I asked for water. He had a couple of big jugs of pop, so we put that in the radiator. I got the car started and made it home. I filled up the radiator the rest of the way with water. No the engine don't sound so good. What can I put in it to fix it?

I really don't use thermostats, so I don't need one of those. I checked the gasket last time, and it was good. Will BG44K fix it?

It's a 2006 Saab convertible. Do Saab's require coolant in the radiator or just water. The guy at my office says that water is fine. You only need coolant if you live in Alaska.

sorry man, but i think it's not looking good for you. if you would have stopped as soon as it started overheating you might have been okay. now i would almost be that at a minimum you will need a new head gasket. make sure you flush out your radiator and engine very well since you put soda in it. that actually would have worked had you stopped sooner. if you can't get it fixed very soon you should at least make sure you check to see if you have water in your cylinders. if you don't have any idea what i'm talking about i would take it to a shop immediately.

Well if its an overheating problem then it could be a numebr of problems:
Blockage
Thermostat is broke & not opening
Rad Or pipe Leak

Running the car Again wouldnt be a good Idea as You may have blown the head gasket or Cracked the actual head I would recommend Checking the Engine Oil to see if it has mixed with water, If it is a Creamy Colour then it has a blown head gasket and in which case will need a new one and the Head may also need skimming.

hope this helps.

It's terminal. You need a new engine or a new car. Your engine was overheating (steam coming out of the radiator), It stopped smoking because you ran out of coolant. It was amazing how you were able to drive for another 39 miles. During that period you just damaged every moving part in that engine.

well you burned off all the coolant... drove 30 more miles... filled it with soda then drove more and dumped water in??? well the noise was it fast high pitched tick tick tick or more like a sorta hollow sounding knock knock knock ? it doesnt matter your so boned anyway. but when that coolant dried up the head started getting hot hot hot. when it gets hot hot hot it might possibly have some preignition which is described as pinging and youll loose power and might end up dead but i would guess it blew a head gasket or two depending on motor and heated up so much that a bearing seized and broke a rod but you need to havfe a mechanic listen to it and maybe drive it if it still can.

When the engine overheated, it did so to the point where it seized up. I would say there is considerable damage to the cylinder walls as well as the pistons and the main engine bearings. In short, the engine in your car is toast. I would have the engine either rebuilt or replaced.

You problably overheated the pistons. you need to put a new thermastat in and put water and coolant in it.
Ive worked with many radieators and you definitly need coolant and a thermastat.
If it still sould bad there is not much you can do try changing the oil. youre very lucky you didnt blow the engine

Hope i helped you

Its dead my friend. You either need to put a new engine in it or just junk it and get a new car. Same thing happenend to me, except that I never used soda in it.

Head gasket is dead. And in all honesty, so is your engine.
