Supposedly, Cleopatra committed suicide by holding an Egyptian Asp to her breast, but that only comes from one historical source who said that MAY have been how she died, and who wasn't there. She had a great deal of knowledge about poisons, so she would have chosen something more sure to kill her, kill her quicker and killer her with less pain, than the bite of an asp.

I am not sure that Cleopatra's death was suicide. Cleopatra loved figs. Some-one brought to her a basket of figs, in-side was an ASP snake. The asp snake bit Cleopatra and she died.

Asp.
I remember that her handmaidens brought her the asp in a basket, but that doesn't seem to fit your hint...
