I asked my mom if I could sleepover my friends house on Thurs. I've known this friend for a year and we are really good friends but we've never had a sleepover. My mom said it would be better to invite another friend over because she doesnt know my friends family that well. I agree with her, but the sleepover is this Thursday and it will kind of be a short notice for the other person she'll be inviting. She's scared that something might happen to me since she doesnt know her family. Do you agree with her?

Yes I would have to agree with your mom in this case. You just don't know people in this day and time.

Ask the person that you want to have the sleepover if it is ok if you invite another friend over to join you guys. If so then ask the other person if they would like to join in on the fun.

If none of this works out, why not ask this person to have a sleepover at your house instead of their house.

Not really. Suggest to your Mom that she call over to your friend's house and talk to her mother or father and assuage her fears. If she's still unsure, or gets a bad vibe from the conversation, then she shoud not you go.

Howeer, if you do want someone else to be there, then trust, this isn't short notice. If school hasn't started yet, then everything's okay. I'm 23 and in all my years I've had numerous sleepovers and attended many. Most of the time it was that same evening when we asked our parents. Unless it's some kind of party, then it should be fine.

OF COURSE .. i disagree with her. My friend once invited mi to her house for a sleepover and i was at arguement with my mom for a few days. Surely she scared something might happen to you.. U can assure her by giving her calls every morning or night to let her know that you can perfectly safe. Furthermore the sleepover will only be a few days, you should let her know why you wanted to go for the sleepover to enjoy yrself with yr friend... Jux hope that she understands bah.. Some parents are just too protective of their kids now .. They wouldnt even want to have them out of their sight for a sec. I knew a friend whose parent are so drastic until they dont even allow her to go for school camps and they even wrote letters to the principal HAIZ>..< poor girl..

Yes, I agree with your mom.

Parents can be anal.

Parents have selective memory. We have found that it is easier to say "because I said so" rather than involve ourselves in a debate with our children.

If you have been friends for over a year, then why doesn't your mom know this person? Is this because you realize that your friend doesn't live up to the standards/values that your family unit accepts?

Is it because that you like this person but have no idea about their living conditions or you are trying to hide it? In this case, your mom will be questioning the parents of your friend, not your friend herself.

I have a responsibility to my children. I want my kids to understand that I looking out for them. This includes my being introduced to their friends and their friends' families.

If my children attempt to bypass this simple rule, they can be assured that the sleep-over request will be answered with a resounding "NO".

But, I have been known to say "yes" after I have had a chance to meet with my kids friend(s) and check out the situation with the friend(s) parents.

Your mom loves you.

Yes i do agree with her, a mother who loves her child and wants the best for her child should do just that....if you knew this in advance you should have made arrangements for the parents to meet so your mom could make this decision..... Accept the decision she has made and have your friends parents and your mo m to meet so you and your friend can have sleepovers.......

ALL PARENTS ARE LIKE THAT!!!! IF YOU CAN'T GET SOMEONE ELSE THEN MAYBE YOU COULD MOVE THE DATE TILL LATER WHEN THERE IS ENOUGH NOTICE!!!! SHE IS JUST TRYING TO PROTECT YOU AND I THINK I WOULD DO THE SAME TOO!!!

Yes, I do. Your mother is looking after your welfare and you should be properly grateful that you have such a good mother.
