if he is breast feeding and growing, and developing- don;t worry about it!! he is just fine. baby food is a relatively new invention and babies should eat when they have teeth. we push the issue. try again next month. he'll get it eventually. you eat healthy so you know you are nourishing him well. relax. all is well

My 18 month old was the same way. Actually he never ate baby food because I could not get him to eat it so what I did was mash him bananas, give him mashed potatoes, oatmeal, yogurt, pudding, and any thing else that was soft and mushy. I would even us the blender for some vegetables and that is what I would feed him. I would suggest to start weening him to some type of baby formula not to whole milk but you should discuss the weening with the babies doctor he would be of the best help for that. I would not worry too much about him not liking baby food but I would suggest putting him on daily vitamins.

Sweetie, take a deep breath and relax. I recommend a book call "what to expect the first year" It's by the same authors of "what to expect when you are expecting"...It is chock full of down to earth advices about your baby and it's divided into month by month age. Your baby may not be ready. Or just picky. If your son can eat cheerios, continue to offer that to him. No berries until after he's a year old to avoid allergic reaction. Sometimes he might prefer something sweeter, like applesauce, or pureed peaches. Or perhaps he prefer plain things. Offer a little of something different each time and follow up with breastfeeding, which, by the way, is really the best thing for him. Follow his cues. Does he rejects the breast more often? Or does he just wants to cuddle? In that case, substitute a blanket or a safe stuffed animal with no ribbons or choking hazards. Good luck, dear. It also helps to talk to other mothers about this. They are your greatest source of information.

Don't stop the Breast milk until age 1. Keep trying the baby foods sometimes it just takes them a while to get use to the textures and flavors. If it continues talk to the doctor because there are some conditions that cause problems with babies not being able to swallow /eat baby food. Just be patient.

Okay if he is only six months he should still be getting breast milk if you are able to produce. If you need to supplement with formula do so. You need to start your baby with pablum first before baby food. Then you slowly introduce veggies first and one at a time so you can establish what your baby likes and what he doesn't and most importantly if there are any bad reactions. You always try the veggies first because they are more bitter than the fruits and if you start the sweet tasting stuff first, chances are he'll never eat the vegetables. Then you do the fruit and juices.

Both of my oldest children were weaned from the breast when they were about 7 months. I find it admirable that, at your age, you chose to nurse him. I didn't start my children on baby foods until they were about your son's age and then one food at a time, for a period of one week.
Don't rush things. He'll be ready when he's ready. You push, he pushes back and that's when your problems start. Nursing him at the age he is shouldn't be a problem, it's when they're walking and tugging at their mother's clothes is when you should show some concern about nursing, but he's still an infant.
Also, never mind about what the other parents are doing, ask your mother for your family history. There may be a pattern. Also, get some advice from your pediatrician and you might even consider contacting your local LaLeche League chapter. They were wonderful when my young adult children were babies! :)

My son didn't like baby food either. I think he didn't like the texture. I mashed up food like peas, bananas, etc. It's not as pureed that way and he liked it and ate it. Most MD's say to breast feed for a year. My daughter breast fed for 6 mos. I was young and a neighbor was horrified that she was still breastfeeding (this was 1976) so I weaned her. If I had been older and more at ease with my parenting skills I would not have weaned her then. My son breastfed for longer than I want to divulge.
At 6 months your can start eating baby food and slowly wean. It's really good that you've breastfed for 6 months. Good job

If he's still breast feeding that's the best food for him. Not all babies are ready to eat at the same time and there are WIC progams and such that can be of more help with your questions. As he watches you eat food, he will eventually get too curious to not want to try it. If he shows interrest in some mashed potatoes, apple sauce, etc that you are eating, just put your finger in it to just give him a taste. Sooner or later he'll want more. Just be sure not to give him more than one new thing a week so that any allergies will be easy to pin point.

He is still fine on breast milk. I would waite a year before weaning. If you do want to introduce food do one food at a time for a week so he can get used to it and you can make sure there is no allergic reaction. Remember babies at that age tend to push a lot out with their tongue because they don't know how to work it yet. also you can try rice cereal its gentle on the babie.

Don't be alarmed. Your baby may not be ready for baby food yet. Try agian in about a week, or try a different brand, flavor etc. Or try putting a little breastmilk in it. That's how I got my daughter to eat her rice and oatmeal cereals.
Are you ready to wean him off the breast? I would keep breastfeeding as long as possible, or at least till 12 months, when he can be gradually weaned onto regular cow's milk. He is not ready for whole cow's milk yet and if you wean him now, you will have to put him on formula. Which he may not like.
But that weaning decision is up to you, but you should talk to the pediatrician about it first. And talk to the pediatrician about baby food also. They have a schedule of what to feed and when to feed your infant baby foods and table foods.

Will he eat rice? Gerber rice?
Make some Gerber rice, but make it really soupy so its mainly breast milk. Do not begin weaning him until you can get him to accept solids better. Once you get him to eat the REALLY soupy rice, then start increasing the consistancy. Some children tend not to eat baby food because of the texture, some because of the taste, this way you wean him ON to the food. Once the consistancy has reached a semi soupy mix and he is eating start adding baby spoonfuls of one veggie/fruit at a time to the rice mixture. Once he accepts the first mix then next mix add a little more, if he rejects it add even less. I hope this helps!
