Timing is everything. Sperm can live for two to three days, but the egg is around for only 12 to 24 hours. To increase the likelihood of conception, schedule intercourse for one to two days before ovulation. That way, there's more likely to be a healthy supply of sperm waiting in the Fallopian tube when an egg is released.
Of course, exactly when a woman ovulates isn't altogether clear. It all depends on the length of your menstrual cycle. A woman typically ovulates 14 days before her next period — not mid-cycle as is commonly held. If you have a 28-day cycle, which is the average, then you would ovulate halfway through your cycle. But if you have a 35-day cycle, you would ovulate around day 21 not day 17.

as gross as this might sounds there would be a clear liquid that comes out from your V and is usually sticky, u can cramps on your sides also and this can tell u when u are ovulating or when u are about to. The side cramps usually last at last 15mins -4 hours depends on that person . Ovulation usually occurs 14 days cuz that is half way and if u have a shorter lenght cycle 11-14 and longer cycle 17-21

They make kits. My doctor prescribed me one so I didn't even have to pay for it.
I haven't used it yet, but I've read the box. You pee in this cup everyday and put this stick in it.. the stick will change colors 36 hours before your ovulate- so that you know when to have sex.
Now- peeing in a cup doesn't sound fun, but it does sound fool proof:) I thought about taking my temp. to see when I ovulate; however, I read that you have to do it the same time each morning- do it as soon as you wake up- do not talk- do not go and pee- nothing... I wake up at different times depending upon if I have work or what I am doing so that wouldn't work for me.
Thanks! Hope this helped.
There is also a book called "Taking Charge of your Fertilty"

Everyone ovulates differently. You will better know when you are ovulating when you keep track of your temperature using a BBT Chart. If you are trying to conceive this is good way to know when you ovulate - that's when you want to have sex. Good Luck
