I get the impression that many people who are not American think Americans are ignorant and don't know about the rest of the world. Well I'm an American and want desperately to know about you. Tell me what I should know!! Educate us ignorant people because we may be isolated over here, but I think most of us (I realize I'm making a generalization here.) would like to know about you.

That it exists.
I'm an American. I know we Americans don't really care much about other countries. I do highly doubt those statistics about American tourists who couldn't find Australia on a globe. Seeing as how the person who said that was Australian I assume she heard that through some sort of propaganda. I admit many Americans couldn't find most countries on a map or globe, but Australia is kinda pushing it.
I think the best way to inform Americans about other countries is through foreign language classes in school. I don't know about the rest of you but when I was in Jr. high all they taught was Spanish and French. Considering the part of the country I live in I learned all the Spanish I needed to know durring lunch periods and lets face it, not many Americans really care about French. But that presents another problem: even if our schools did have a veriety of languages, we'd have little reason to take the classes or pay attention because of the stigma attatched to so many foreign cultures. German is still associated with Nazis, Russian with Communists, and people think Japanese and Chinese would be too difficult. Not to mention teachers fluent enough in these other languages are very few and far between.

well its really true that those of us in Northern Canada are homeless in the summer, because our igloos really do melt. we have to wait untill winter before we can build a new one.

lets face it america only shows on its news what americans want to hear and they only want to hear about other americans in other parts of the world. i know, i watch it sometimes.
why do we think your ignorant i guess an example would be sports
the world series of baseball!! how come the rest of the world cant play in the world series? so really, its not a world series. goes to show you poor americans think the world revolves around you and everyone else doesnt count

you did ask for this one....

as an aussie you ask the questions hun and ill give you the facts.......and the generalisation of america only knowing america was proven recently when a tourism survey was conducted in US and only 20% of americans could find Australia on a globe, and of the 80% that couldnt find it most were looking in the northern hemisphere........despite Australia being affectionately known as the land down under (persoanlly the hint of down under would have made me look at the bottom half of the globe)
and we are all aware that there is Americans that are educated and know there is other countries outside America, but unfortunately you have 300million people and if only 60 million of them are pathetic thats still a hell of alot, infact its 3 x the Oz population and equal to the UK population in pathetic people.
