It's right there in your link:

"a lot more competition, a lot more variety of service in the trans-Atlantic marketplace, more destinations served more conveniently, more economic opportunity for the airlines on both sides."

There's the reasoning behind it. The fear is outlined as:

"it will result in the loss of American jobs, will hurt rural and small communities and could severely jeopardize our safety and security" blah, blah blah, blah blah...

Everytime you try to let capitalism take its course, you have the labor unions and the pessimists against change spouting off the same rhetoric every time. There may be a loss of jobs, but competition is good for the economy as a whole. If prices go down, demand can go up. American companies can actually turn a larger profit in the long run creating more jobs in the long run.

Don't let yourself get "stuck on stupid" by only focusing on the short term...

He's not worried. He has done more to terrorize people right here at home than our Arab counterparts.
The governor of the state of Indiana, who is a cohort of Dubya, just leased the 80/90 Toll Road in Northern Indiana to a group of companies; a consortium of several countries. Australia, is one of them, and there is a South American country also included, but they have not specified any of the other countries in this consortium. We tried to get it stopped. But the judge hearing the case, threw it out, because lawyers presenting an injunction against the lease, couldn't come up with over a million $, for him to hear our side of the case.
Besides that, this foreign consortium does not pay taxes, because they are only leasing the road for 75 years.
Someone elected should not have that much power over the people. It is not a clear representation of the public.
As Dubya claims that's what we have illegal aliens here for. To do the jobs we don't want to do. So there should be no reason to send jobs elsewhere, right?

President Bush, as commander in chief of the United States of America, has a duty and an obligation to protect the nation and its citizens. This is why he did what he did in response to the foiled attack plot in the UK. The UK was right on in doing what they did.

As for him asking Dubai Ports World to take over our port authorities, DPW is a company that was founded to control port authority. They would control the ports, but had the deal gone through, the same amount of security would have been given to the ports in order to protect our homeland. DPI may be located in the United Arab Emirates, but just because it is located there, doesn't mean that DPI would have let terrorists in. Again, security would have been in place, and ships would have been inspected.

While you're looking into the Sell-Off of America, look for highways, bridges and turnpikes that are being sold to foreign interests.

Australia owns a lot public transportation entities in Alabama ... there's more nationally.

I just LOVE how these poor suckers eat up whatever garbage spills from Dubya's lips. If his followers were all rich, I would understand, because all of his moves as president have been to help the rich get richer (and the poor? who cares?? I think he'd be happy if we all just died off....) But the poor (money-wise) conservatives are the ones who blow me away. They are losing jobs, paying exorbitant prices for gasoline, not benefiting from any government programs, etc., and still they continue to regurgitate the propaganda turned out by the present administration's spin doctors. I especially love the guy who already answered, who said it would help lower the deficit, and he couldn't even spell the word "deficit"---must be a product of our really, really bad public educational system......

edit: annontrainer can't spell or form a coherent sentence. Figures he'd cuss and call anyone who disagrees with him and his buddy, Dubya, a "commie". I used to think that conservatives were somewhat intelligent (all that $$$ would have to buy a good education, wouldn't it? You'd hope so, at least.), just misguided. But if anno....is any indication, Bush's followers are coming from a smaller and smaller (and stupid-er) cross section.

Wherever the strings tug, Bush moves.

The one talent this guy has is to place himself in the path of powerful people (especially crooks with a lot of money). He's been good at it since he was at Yale. He knows how to "work a room" and "navigate" a cocktail party.

Management skill? Protecting the American people? His social skills and cheerleading didn't prepare him for that, and, at 60 years old, it's too late now.
