YES!
Most people get genital herpes by having sex with someone who is shedding the herpes virus either during an outbreak or during a period with no symptoms. People who do not know they have herpes play an important role in transmission.
You can transmit herpes through close contact other than sexual intercourse, through oral sex or close skin-to-skin contact, for example.
The virus is spread rarely, if at all, by objects such as a toilet seat or hot tub.

thats not very likely herpes is a virus, you get it from someone in the first place, cold sores and such are herpes simplex and genetial herpes is related, if you have oral sex with someone with a cold sore maybe it can happen that way, im not really sure, but no it doesnt come from toilet seats, however if you played with someone with herpes on his hands or something, thats possible. thats why you use condoms always, and if you are playing with hands maybe you should use rubber gloves. ick
