It's a cultural tradition. Circumcsion for non-Jews (or non-Moslems) was not the norm in the United States until after WWII. Most baby boomer males and any generation of male babies which followed have been circumsized (not all though). In this country, it's thought to be a healthier route to go, although I don't think there is any real evidence in that regard. Europeans generally don't get circumsized because they are carrying on a cultural tradition that distinguishes gentile males from Jewish males in the European community.

Americans really do need to be educated. The ONLY time circumcision should be performed is if there's a medical problem and it HAS to be done.
Really, the only downside to not having it done is it's a little harder to clean, but really how hard is it to convince a boy to play with himself in the shower every day?
Of course, it costs the parents money to have it done, so the doctors will tell them anything they can to get that little bit of extra money.

Because American parents stupidly listen to the idea that its cleaner. Any kid can learn to clean his dick and it is grossly unfair to circumsize infants.
It is getting better though, almost 50% of American babies are now left uncircumsized.

Medical what you can say traditions, or practices. Same reason for any different behavious existing in different continents, or why they sound different, different practices are adopted, some are, some aren't.
