If I have a decent car - say a Honda Accord
and I have to drive approx. 15 miles to work 5 days a week, 15 miles back home + any driving to school, shopping, etc.. So let's say I am driving 50 miles a day - how much will that cost for gas approx.?

I live in California and gas is approx. $3.50 right now.

Just an estimate - you don't have to be too specific - it's just I have no idea if 50 miles means $5 or if it means $50 ..

How many miles would a 1998 Honda Accord get per gallon?

There is no real way to know what an 8 year old car will get in gas mileage, unless of course the current owner is keeping meticulous records, he/she is honest in their record keeping, and they are willing to show you the true mileage.

For illustration, let's say the car gets 15 miles per gallon in city driving, and all of your 45 miles a day will be city driving. [I am using 45 miles a day to keep this simple].

45 miles divided by 15 miles per gallon equals 3 gallons of gasoline burned.

3 gallons at $3.50 per gallon equals $10.50.

$10.50 per day times 5 days equals $52.50 a week, or $210.00 a month.

That is ONLY the cost of fuel.

Cars cost more than fuel: tags, taxes, maintenance, insurance, repairs.

I have a Honda Accord and get 25 mpg, so to driver 50 miles a day would take 2 gallons, or $7 if gas is $3.50 a gallon. Mine is a somewhat newer model, but I doubt the gas mileage has changed a lot.

an accord will net you around 22-25 mpg realistically, so if youre hitting 50 miles a day, thats about 2 gallons, which is about 7 dollars in gas per day.

and if you want to save money on gas, find a volkswagen with the TDi in it (used is even better, because theyre not too expensive and incredibly reliable)

Since you drive 50 miles a day (including weekends) / average MPG (25) * $3.50 per gallon = $7 per day or $2,555 per year.

If you drive a smaller car and more fuel efficient (say Hond Insight) MPG would be around 55. SO
50 miles a day / average MPG (55) * $3.50 per gallon = $3.19 per day or $1,164.35 per year.

Cost savings between the two per year is $1,309.65!!!!!!
