My best away from home vacation, was being invited to go to British Columbia, Canada. I enjoy nature, and had never seen, but heard about the Rocky Mountains. I visited a lot of the surrounding areas but during late summer. I found it to be absolutely beautiful, and breath taking. I met a lot of great people out there. It was fabulous being invited everywhere, and participating in events. On the slower days, I have to admit, I did sit to watch for the that myth about the loch nest monster, if I spelled that right...everyone shared their fascinating stories about that. It was entertaining, and very relaxing at the same time, by some of their nice beaches. Not sure what you have in mind, it is cold out there with snow the time of year you plan to travel, but have a great vacation where ever your destination, and thanks for asking.

Oh...Oh..Pick me...I've got my hand raised!
Without even a second thought....Catalina Island. It's in the LA area but you wouldn't even know it. You take a boat there.
And it's simply paradise. It's so small...that people drive golf carts around. And with the very few cars that are there...it's takin' great effort to get them allowed there. So when you walk up to the little grocery store...there were about 9 spaces...all filled with golf carts. (Though there is the limo golf cart..hehe for larger crowds...I that that only fit 6 people though...) We found it very comical to see a specially made tiny tow truck hauling away a cart.. (You had to have seen it!) Looked like the Jolly Green giants HotWheel!
Wrigley (as in the founder of Wrigleys Gum) has a botanical garden there...every cactus and succulent you can think of with a huge monument a walk aways for Wrigley cript.
I remember the beach with a large hole in the rock you could walk through...a lot of history is there. Great food, nice hotel accomidations. The best place by far to really get away..but yet not be too far away.
I stayed at the Hotel St. Lauren but there were vacation rentals as well.
They ofter a tour around the island..(doesn't take very long..it's quite small) yet quant!
We also bought snorkles and masks and enjoyed looking all the beautiful orange/red fish?
They also ofter a glass bottom boat ride..which was fun to see what you were passing as well. The water was very clear. (though that was over 10 years ago too!) But some day I will go back because I enjoyed it sooo much!
Have fun on your vacation...where ever you end up!

Here's a site of a live video cam! It's basically the view we had from Hotel St. Lauren on their upstairs patio.

The abosolute best vacations I ever took were with my family when I was a kid. We went to the Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Yellowstone. I would recommend going to the southwest, Arizona or New Mexico. It's beautiful there, the sunsets are fabulous!

I once went on a camping trip into the mountains around Lake Tahoe in California, and was it ever a wild place to camp! I met a lot of odd people up there, including a hermit who shot at you when you came into sight! The temperature was 100, but in the mountain streams, you can slide on huge chunks of ice that passed you by in the water! It was so neat, roasting one minute and freezing the next! We ran into bears, deer, mountain lions, a bob cat, 3 wolves who circled our camp, many wild dogs, raccoons, rabbits, opossums, ground hogs, beavers and even two old hippies who built their own (empty beer can) cabin! They even had an old gasoline powered TV ! We had our tent shredded by a bear, (who also took our food), ran into a nest of giant spiders, got stuck in some tar pit and every morning around 5am, it snowed! What a fun place to go camping! You ought to try it! Oh yea, I forgot to mention that (Hot lips) on the old show MASH was there and so was Doris Day!

This past month me and some friends went to Cancun. We had been plenty of times before, and it gets better every time. Nothing but laying out all day by the gorgeous ocean, and partying all night at the hot clubs.
