ive looked everywhere and cant find it, and all my baseball fan friends are asleep!

It means that the player was up to bat 3 times and received only one hit....though they could have reached base all 3 times with perhaps 2 walks or 1 walk and an error (ball was misfielded by the defense), or maybe they only reached base the 1 time but anyways,

Simply to answer your question the 1st number is how many times the player reached base on a hit and the 2nd number is how many opportunities the batter had to get a hit during a single game.
