I just made this a blog on Myspace. I think if Griffey hadn't gotten hurt and missed 200+ games in the last couple of years, he would still be chasing Hank Aaron and everyone else in those statistical categories. He is a guaranteed first ballot Hall of Famer, but it would have been nice for all of us to see a healthy Griffey Jr. throughout his career. Bonds has been killing it since his 3 MVP Pirate days, but he has never been the force Griffey has been. I just hope Bonds didn't use steroids because he has always been great.

Hard for me to be objective about Bonds, since he's always been such a sorry a*shole. Tells you all you need to know about him when you consider that...of all the people in baseball who dislike him, the ones who despise him the most are his former (and current) teammates.
Bonds had two or three seasons there that have been unsurpassed in baseball history, thanks to steroids. (Notice how many fly balls he's hitting to the warning tracks this season?) He was a fine player pre-steroids...good solid .285-.315 hitter, with line drive power. Good speed, and ran the bases well...stole a lot of bases with a pretty good percentage...was a good outfielder...never a "Gold Glove" outfielder, in my opinion, though he did win some...but a good outfielder nonetheless. He'd have been a lot better off just to come clean and admit to steroid use, but so would Mark McGwire...
Griffey, in my opinion, had some years in which he was the best all around player in baseball. Outstanding hitter, and a fine outfielder. Never had the pure, flat-out speed to play center field, I don't think...but was a fine center fielder neverhtheless...thanks to good positioning, good instincts, and hustle. Also has a strong, accurate arm. I wish he had never gone to Cincinnati, though it is always nice to see a player get to play in his hometown. For some reason, Cincy just never was good to him. He kept getting hurt, and didn't hit when he was healthy. Sure wish he'd gone to Baltimore...great place for a lefty to hit, and he was always real popular there.
Personally, I think that Ken Griffey Jr. had a real chance to catch Aaron...he's got a lean, athletic build...like Aaron, Mays, Musial...the kind of players who continue to produce well, even into their late 30's. Now, of course, the chance is just about gone...can't miss two and a half seasons in the middle of your most productive years and still break records.
Personally, I think Bonds is going to do whatever he can to stay around long enough to break Henry Aaron's record. Hell of a shame...Aaron was always a class act, and a very worthy record holder. Hate to see him surpassed by such a sorry piece of sh*t, but what the hell...Babe Ruth held the record for a long time, and he was hardly a boy scout, either. (Of course, Ruth was never the scumbag that Bonds is, but more along the lines of a Bill Clinton type...you know he's a lying, womanizing bum...but you can't help liking the guy anyway.)
Looks like Bonds will wind up with a better career...but I'd rather have had Griffey.

ken griffey junior was the most talented player in mlb history. if he was not hit hard by a plague of injuries, he would have reached about 700 homeruns by the end of this season..given he would play about 4 or 5 more, he would not only have beaten aaron's record, but he would have reached 800 plus homeruns....

Also even though Bonds was a great defensive outfielder, Griffey Jr. was much better.

Griffey by far. Bonds used, no doubt. If he makes the hall Pete Rose better too.

Griffey Jr, he was good when he was younger, not after he got old and started taking steroids.
