My medicine cabinet has plastic shelves and i just noticed they are getting holes where the plastic is just falling through the bottom as if they were melted and dried mid drip however i know they have not been above room temperature. Any ideas what could be causing this?

Aside from demons...

Is there any corrosive substances in your medicine cabinet (granted, no one would put something so corrosive inside a medicine cabinet but I had to ask). As well, what was resting on the plastic?

As for chemicals, it depends on the type of plastic. It could be bleach...most likely, it is a solvent. It should not be medicine, or else you would see the container the medicine is hold is leaking

The way to find out which chemical is to go into the cabinent and look for which container has holes in it.

It may not be temperature...it may be a chemical component that dripped on it! This could be dangerous for you, since your 'melting' point is almost always lower in either case...than any plastics which a cabinet may be made of!?!

UV radiation can degrade some plastics, although I think a chemical reaction is the more likely culprit.

Possibly rubbing alcohol - anything spilled on them could do it.
