What was the name of that movie--it wasn't Universal Soldiar, but it was kinda like it.?

This is what I remember: It was this movie about futuristic superman warriors that were under the command of this general. The training area was black with red lights, and they were giving a tour to somebody. Anyway, they had a bunch of the guys fight up on these ropes, and one guy got his eye plucked out. Anyway, the general started yelling at him and telling him that since he lost his depth perception, he wasn't good for anything but cannon fodder. Then he made one of the fighters run a really long distance. That's all I remember. Please help!! :)

"Soldier" (1998) with Kurt Russel and Jason Scott Lee.

Kurt Russel's character, who barely speaks throughout the whole movie, is raised and trained by the government to be the ultimate soldier. Russel and his comrades are eventually replaced by a new breed of soldiers which included Jason Scott Lee.

Jason Scott Lee almost killed Russel's character in a demonstration match of skills, but in the process is injured in the eye with a ridiculous looking contact as a result. Both will duke it out in a dull rematch at the end of the movie. Left to die on a planetary junk yard, Russel's character eventually rediscovers his humanity which had been buried under years of governmental brainwashing and a constant fight for survival in war.

Not as memorable as "The Thing", "Escape From New York" or "Stargate", "Soldier" did put a smile on my face by demonstrating that Kurt Russel's legendary lack of facial expressions was still as terrible as ever.

Sounds like a movie I remember with Kurt Russel in it. Don't remember the name of the movie though. I think I remember why I don't remember the name of the movie... Wasn't exactly the finest movie around.
