Well one reason is because the American League has the Designated Hitter. Hitting homeruns is his specialty, so that explains some of the extra runs. Another reason is that a lot of the National League pitchers are better...harder to hit off of...therefore resulting in fewer runs...

The American League has had the Designated Hitter since 1973, and so it's become known more as a hitter's league, and more runs are scored.

The National League opted not to use the DH, and allows the pitchers to bat, and well, there really is no contest...imagine Gregg Maddux batting, compared to Jason Giambi or Jim Thome or even David Ortiz.

Although lately, two of our best known homerun hitters have come out of the National League - Barry "Roids" Bonds, and Mark Macguire...interesting.

i'm an A.L. guy, yet no longer as a results of regulations as a results of fact i'm an A's fan. I appreciate the national league form of play, yet seem at my team. they might't hit with a DH. think of if that they had no DH then they actually ought to no longer hit. Ya, i'd like a pitchers duel, it is many times purely a miles better high quality form of baseball whilst they play deffense and pitch properly, yet make no mistake approximately it. A.L. has extra advantageous gamers who can play N.L. ball purely as properly if not extra advantageous the the NL.

the AL has the DH rule, which allows them to have 9 batters.
the NL does not have a DH position, leaving pitchers to work the bat.
