I have dealt with Acne for a long time now. The best soaps that I have found for controlling the acne are Clean and clear continuous control acne cleanser and Neutrogena Acne Wash.
Using a topical Benzoyl Peroxide cream like Clearasil helps for treating the pimples once they have already surfaced.
Exfoliate with a mild scrub twice a week, a good one is St Ives medicated apricot scrub for oily or acne prone skin.
When I have really had bad breakouts a professional facial has helped, but it is costly.
I have tried all of the prescriptions that are available, Accutane worked well but was not worth all of the side effects that I went through while I was on it.
Good luck, I hope you find something that works for you.

If you’re looking for accurate acne information, best to see a dermatologist. Some people believe doctors are predisposed to take the easy way to deal with acne… prescription drugs. But, with many, this simplistic answer may not be the appropriate course of action. Some feel that such prescription drugs just treat the symposium and not the underlying cause. But, a local dermatologist is still your best starting point.
For me personally, I discovered a great informational acne treatment site. Not only is there good information/articles but I got their audio e-book and following it’s advice can now say that my acne is a thing of the past! Keep in mind, were all different and there are various types of acne, so what works for some may not be totally effective for all.
Bottom line, hang in there, you will get past this! Sincere best wishes and good luck.
Oh, by the way the site that helped me is:

If you have acne you should put some soap on your face before you take a shower. Wait for 10 minutes until the soap is dried and sticky on your face. Then wash. Do this twice a day.
The Aloe cactus also helps. Break a piece of and rub it on your acne areas.
Make sure you don't poke your acne pimples. This will cause more to grow.

Wash your face in the morning when you get up and before you go to bed. I like to wash w/ a buff puff and I use an olive oil soap. Wash your hair frequently if it is greasy or hangs in your face. Do not pick at any pimples--it makes them 1000X worse. If you are getting a pimple, dip a q-tip in peroxide and wipe the pimple a couple of times a day, this helps dry them out. Proactive may work for a while but I think that the bacteria causing pimples gets used to it and then it may quit working. Never go to be w/ makeup on! Always wash your face before bed.

I used proactive and it really worked, but if you can't use that then~~
Wash your hands before you wash your face, and don't pick at the zits. Don't even touch your face, the oil from your hands makes it worse.
Try not to drip sweat everywhere unless you play a sport, and if you do sweat wash quickly afterwards.
Don't toss off and rub your face :3
WASH YOUR HAIR IF IT COMES INTO CONTACT WITH YOUR SKIN. It pains me to see acne-faced girls with long, greasy hair because they don't wash well...
If you have large, painful zits all over your face, go to a dermatologist, you might have cystic acne... proactive cleared up my cystic because it wasn't severe, but sometimes you need medication for it.

Drink lots and lots of water. It'll flush out your system. Avoid junkfood. What you eat makes a world of difference. Steer clear of sodas too. Water and healthy food and Noxzema every day, and a good spot treatment like Clearasil or Clean and Clear. Give it 2-3 weeks and you'll notice a significant difference.

I use St Ives daily facial scrub. But they key is the word daily. It takes time for acne to go away but it will be worth it in about month. BUT you MUST use your products daily. I think the problem is people are not consistent with their use. US e whatever you choose but do it twice a day EVERYDAY

you'll get alot of people who'll say proactive. Just wash your face with warm water and a gentle facewash twice a day, use medicated wipes and creams, etc. But don't use harsh soaps or abrasive things- they'll irritate your pores and make them smaller and therefore easier to plug. or see a dermatologist, they can give you an antibiotic perscription.

I just came back from the store because I had to buy Pro-activ for my son. It has been the best thing for his face. You can try it for really cheap too. QVC has an intro price of $23.96 plus shipping and handling. About $6.00. This is a really cheap price. Check it out.

First of all it is not going to be over in a week.
Secondly, before taking any meds I would try natural homemade remedies.
like this:
"Rub the acne with garlic cloves several times a day."

Good luck
