Does vaginal flora contain any kind of acid? Even strong enough to burn through clothing? Also, why is vaginal flora important and what can happen when there is a disruption?

Vaginal infections are the most common gynecologic disorder. Symptoms of vaginal infections can range from mildly annoying to extremely uncomfortable. Many of the agents that cause vaginal infections are normally found in the vagina in small numbers. The normal vaginal flora generally keeps the agents from overgrowing. Whenever there is an imbalance in the normal vaginal flora, a vaginal infection can develop.

It is naturally mildly acidic in the vagina. Like, diluted vinegar acidic. Hence, the "natural vinegar" formulas for most douches. This acidity is just enough to keep infections at bay, but not so acidic that it destroys sperm during intercourse. If you get too acidic or too alkali, infections are either the cause or the result.
