If you have a long period and are losing a lot of blood, this makes you more susceptible to anemia (of which weakness is one symptom). Go to a doctor and ask for a complete blood count: ferritin (which measures the amount of iron stores in your body), your hemoglobin levels, etc. Ask for a copy of the blood test so you can keep track of your blood count levels (this will be especially important as you get older).
Only if the tests show that you are anemic should you take iron supplements. The best form of iron supplement to take is ferrous fumerate. And it is best to take them with Vitamin C and B12 and folate to increase the iron's absorption. Note that some substances such as calcium and antacids interfere with iron absorption. So don't take milk, yogurt, ice cream, TUMS, Rolaids, for at least one hour after taking your iron supplement.
I become anemic when I became a vegetarian. Red meat has the highest form of heme iron (the most absorbable kind) so eat red meat 2-3 times a week. Mussels and clams are also good sources of iron.
Stay well!

Taking iron without KNOWING that you need it is a bad idea. Iron pills can cause unpleasant side effects. Check with your doctor first. There are a lot of other problems that can make you feel weak, and most of them are not helped by iron!

If you have a history of anemia, and that's what your doctor has prescribed before, otherwise, check out webmd.com or do an internet search first. Go with the lowest dose possible until you are positive iron is what you need, but I'd urge you to call a doctor first. Good Luck!

You should get blood work done (ask your doctor). Because when you feel weak, that means you have iron deficiency (or Anaemia), you just have to take iron bills. That is normal during teen years. Overall, just consult your doctor about it but I assure what I said is correct :)

Feeling weak definitely means something, and yes, iron will help. You may also try chaste tree berry (or "vitex") and black cohosh once per day. This should help by your next period by a. shortening it up b. making it less painful :)
