Is it a "restart" or a total power off? What operating system are you using?
if you are using windows XP SP2 on a pc, have you set it on automatic updates? A lot of times, these automatic updates require a reboot or "restart". If you have multiple windows open, you may not notice the new small window announcing that windows will reboot your pc so the update will complete. You will be offered so many seconds to say "no, don't reboot" before windows just goes ahead and reboots on you. This may be your problem.

I think it might be a power problem. Is this a custom computer? If so, you might have to many things connected to the power supply that it cannot handle, causing it to shut down. A higher watt power supply will fix that problem. If you are tight on money, try disconnecting a unecessary part. I also believe overheating will cause the computer to shut down. Always clean your system every once in a while. The fans and CPU heatsink can get quite dusty. Maybe there is a virus causing the problem. Try scanning your computer. There was a virus that was released in the past that kept restarting the computer over and over again.

Your first step is to go into Control Panel | System | Advanced | Startup and Recovery | Settings and deselect the Automatically Restart checkbox.
It's probably a driver that's causing your problem. If you get the dialog saying Windows has recovered from a serious error, look at the technical information or the crash diagnosis service. It should tell you which driver caused the stop error.
Once you've found the driver, go into Control Panel | Hardware | Device Manager. Then go to View menu and check "Show hidden devices." Find the offending driver, right click it, and click Properties. You can disable the driver from there.

What you've got here is Power Saver going off. You have it set to hibernate or shut down if there's no mouse movement. Go to Start/Control Panel/Power Options/ Power Schemes and change it to Always On, hit apply and OK.

Mine's restarting by itself right now...it's because the video driver is corrupted. Maybe yours has the same problem. If so, just reinstall the driver from the disk or download it from your computer manufacturers website.
