Have a really good filter (like for a 30 gallon tank) and keep it clean. Goldfish produce a lot of waste. Also, do a 25% water change every week to reduce ammonia levels. They say a fishes stomach is as big as it's eye, so overfeeding is a big problem. A tiny tiny pinch once or twice a day is all it needs. p.s. Be sure to treat your water with a dechlorinator first. I keep 5-6 plastic milk containers treated and ready all the time.

I have 2 goldfish and I had one for 4yrs and one for 1 1/2 yrs. You have to clean off the ammonia from the sides of the fish tank and the filter. ammonia is the black stuff and to much of it will kill your goldfish.I usally refill the tank once a week right to were the water comes out of the filter. and stir up the rocks once in a while or else you'll have a lot a crap down there.

I have a 25 gallon tank and I clean it once a week. But then again I have 3 goldfish and a self cleaner in my tank. I'd imagaine about once a week would do. You just have to monitor the tank and see if the tank is getting dirty. Oh and goldfish make a lot of waste. . .

I am gonna have to agree, with the person above. A goldfish shouldnt be kept in anything smaller than a 20 - 30 gallon tank. They are very very messy. Defintley need to keep up on the water changes. And they need to be feed once a day to everyother day. Here is a link...

feed fish twice a day. (just a pinch). Do a partial water change (1/3 of tank water) every two weeks. Clean glass inside and out when necessary.

Providing that you are careful not to over feed your fish, every other week should be fine. Buy a gravel siphon and use it to remove all the fish poop (and about three gallons of water) and replace the water with water that has been left standing over night (bottled spring water is better).

One fish in a 10 gal. tank wont required much maintenance at all! Just keep an eye on any algae build up on the walls, and dont over-feed. For one fish the filter will do the work. Enjoy your fish!

1st if all it is recommended a 20gl for 1 goldfish... but you can get away with a 10gl if you have a good filter... AquaClear 30 would be probably one of the best or a canister filter! (sorry i work at PetSmart in the fish department!)

You need to watch how much you fed your baby, normally once a month is fine unless there is an ammonia problem in the aquarium. on a ten gallon regular maintance is 10- 15 % of a water change. if any other ? please feel free to contact me
