Our sun is part of a galaxy called milky way
All the stars are suns like ours. They all belong to some galaxy or other. We see more of our galaxy stars because they are nearer to us

Each star in the sky represents exactly that, a star :)
However, some objects in the night sky that appear as stars, are actually galaxies and look as such if you have a powerful enough telescope. Most galaxy pictures and stuff like that that you see on space websites are pictures taken with extremely powerful telescopes, and with the hubble telescope, which doesn't have to deal with atmospheric interferences. Each star in the sky is, however, a potential solar system like our own. For the most part anyway....

Folks - all the stars we see in the sky are within a couple thousand light-years, and most are way under a thousand ligh-years.
Since the MIlky Way galaxy is 100,000 light years across we see only a fraction of the stars in it. The main mass of the Milky Way is visible to naked eye, but you cannot resolve the individual stars without a telescope.
I am really surprised that some people still do not know that stars are suns and that the sun is a star.

Similar to our solar system, in which the sun is the central member and other planets orbit around it, there are systems called the galaxies. The sun in those systems is also a star like our sun.

Most of the stars that you see are, in fact, suns. Some are planets or other celestial bodies. Galaxies, which are huge collections of billions of stars (suns), appear, to the naked eye, as stars.

There are as many galaxies as there are grains of sand on all the beaches on the Earth. I believe most of the stars we see with our naked eye are from our galaxy though.

they are actually but neighboring suns but numerically of course there are infinitely more galaxies than stars we can see in our skies.
