LOL one of my friends has exactly the same problem...and when her niece started calling her Mimi, it drove her even crazier. My only nic issue is with my parents--they won't stop calling me Punky (its a weird shortening of pumpkin--I was born in Oct.)!!

No. My friend Smell has always been Smell, 30+ years, and he doesn't even smell anymore. Hasn't for 20 years. Oh well. Same thing with my buddies The Fetus and Stan The Man Unusual. I'm surprised those lasted as they're more than two syllables.

No they don't. Believe me, I still have a few that i will never live down, such as Shorty, Muffet, and Melika. Yes I know you are wondering where that came from. Well, my name is Melissa and I was palying poker with some friends and one of them tried to pronounce my name that that came out instead. They still call me that to dhis day. I don't mind, I just take it in stride. It's kind of cute, just as long as people don't let their minds go in the gutter and ask me what do I lick. I hate that.

I always wanted a nickname but never had one. I think my parents had a hard enough time coming up with regular names considering I'm the youngest of ten children.

No, they never completely go away. There's always someone around that still calls you by your nickname. But.... you wouldn't want it the other way around, so enjoy. It's fun.
