The best actor was the Father played by John Amos. He made the show . The show took a dump when he left. But it was all around good acting. Everyone was really paired well. And they had believable story lines and skits. Not over done. More true to life. And not a bunch of racial crap thrown in. The Mother was great too.

I have to agree with Marseille on this one....I enjoyed the earlier seasons when James was on the show. Some of the stuff he said was hilarious, and plus he was very strong and a good father figure, definitely what people needed to see from a family in low income. Florida was strong-willed and religious, which really helped the family during times of need. J. J. was crazy with his silly ways and saying "Dy-no-mite!" all the time. He brought the humor during the rough times to help even things out. I LOVE watching Good Times on TV Land, especially the earlier episodes. I also enjoyed Willona too, because she said what was on her mind, no question.

I agree with Marsielle. Great show, John Amos was a great actor. I understand he didn't want to get typecast but I loved the way he put JJ in his place.
I always hated Florida, she was too much of a Jesus freak for me. I always wondered what James saw in her. I guess the audinece did too because one scene on the show explained it.
Anyways my favourite character is Willona. Stong willed, moral, enterprising, responsible and still cool. Like me!

Esther Rolle, who played the mother - Florida Evans, was my favorite character.

I guess because at the time my mother had left me and my dad, and I - as well as many, many kids who grew up in the 70's and 80's - turned to our "babysitter", the TV, and I kind of adopted Florida Evans to be a psuedo-mom if that makes any sense.

It was Thelma, darling! Not only was she smart, she gave J.J. word for word and didn't back down(and she was and still is absolutely gorgeous!).
