Without a doubt, Archie! Carroll O'Connor MADE that show.
The funny thing is Carroll O'Connor who played Archie Bunker was absolutely NOTHING like his character. He was more "liberal" in his way of thinking than Meat Head. The same thing could be said of Sherman Helmsley who played George Jefferson on "All In the Family" before getting his spin-off series, "The Jeffersons"

Archie. He was so stupid it was hilarious. I wasn't allowed to watch the show when it originally aired. My parents loved it. When I was older and watched the rereuns I laughed my *** off.
I still watch this show sometimes and I enjoy laughing at stupid people to this day.
Those were the days!

Edith. And I worked with a woman who was just like her. She's great. Really much smarter than you think.

Edith. She had no spunk at all and was a typical "housewife" of that time period.
