The United States amassed an enourmous armada of aircraft carriers, battle ships, frigates, destroyers, and submarines, and proceeded to attack the Japanes throughout the Pacific. The U. S. executed a plan to win back hundreds of Islands conquered by the Japanese including Iwa Jima and other famous battle fields. The direction of our attack was always toward Japan, one island at a time. In the process we armed and supplied the Chinese to help them kick the Japs out of China. We also fought them out of Alaska. In the final days of the war the U. S. amassed a million man army to attack Japan and force them to surrender. Fortunately, our scientists figured out how to build an atomic bomb and Japan was brought to its knees after Hiroshima and Nagasaki, making a conventional attack unnecessary. The time between Pearl Harbor and the dropping of the bomb was less time than between the attacks of 9/11 and today.

they fought as long hard battle until they finally got close enuff to fly some planes towards the mainland, and they launched the Dolittle raids...a couple of bombers that actually did little.

By they did island hop until the got close enuff to invade the mainland, skipping any large build up islands and cutting them off from supplies, then they decided that instead of invading Japan and losing millions of more men, the would just drop a bomb on them until they surrebdered. Nagasaki....then after no reply from the Japanese they dropped another one on Hiroshima. The bombs were called FAT MAN and Little BOy and were the first atomic bombs created.

I think what your teacher wants here is the "Doolittle Raid". They bombed Japan when it was thought impossible and out of range at the time by a risky maneuver involving aircraft carriers and landing in China. It was a psychological blow, but not any sort of turning point like Midway was.

Doolittle's raid.... we dropped a few 500 lb bombs on Tokyo, it was more of a psychological boost for the folks back home than a strategic military action. Later we obliterated many of their major cities, including the introduction of atomic blasts, which we visited upon Hiroshima and Nagasaki. We dropped more incindiary bombs on Tokyo than were dropped in all of the European theater (A history teacher told me that but I think he might've been on the sauce, does anyone know if its true)

We collected the dead and wounded, slowly rebuilt our fleet and sent Jimmy Dolittle to bomb Tokyo and spare the emperial palace to show them we were not as bloodthirsty as their propagander told of.
