I have brown recluses here in my OH apartment. I think they are fairly common around here. Be careful, one fell on me in the shower.

Michigan is well outside the geographic range of
the brown recluse spider. There would be no
brown recluses there unless they had been brought in from further south with someone's
household goods or by some other human agency.
They would not survive outdoors in Michigan. The
chances are that you have some other kind of
spider, a wolf spider or a grass spider would be
the most likely, considering the size you describe.
If it is one of these it is nothing to worry about.

As for brown recluses, I lived for over 13 years in
a place that had many of them without being bitten.
They are not aggressive, have very small fangs,
and usually hide in dark places. Bites usually
occur when one is trapped against a person, in
clothes or bedding for example, and can't get
away.

Sounds more like a wolf spider. Brown recluse have no hair on them. They have a definite violin shaped body.

From your location and description it is most likely a northern wood spider. It is teh most commonly found spider with 'hair' almost all other species are hairless. The link provided in the first reponse has photos and more links.

The way you can tell if it is a brown recluse is if you take note that has what appears to be a violin or fiddle shape on it's back.
