Could a bad battery cause your cell phone screen to go blank?

My display screen went out on my cell phone and was wondering if my battery might be the problem, no help from metro pcs. thanks in advance.

Absolutely! Get a new battery and condition it ! Meaning let it go completely dead about twice before recharging. This helps on the battery's long term life!Make sure it is brand new though. I am pretty sure it is your battery! The same thing happened to me!
