Me and my girlfriend have switched over to the pregnancy pill. When is it okay to start having sex without condoms, and my second question is, which is safer: condoms or the pill?

Well she's been taking the pill more than a month, and condoms kind of irratate me. I am not really too concerned on being a father, but she takes the pill at 5pm daily.

How long you have to use a barrier method as a backup to the pill depends on which method you use to start (Day 1 method or Sunday start method) and which pill you're on. Regardless of either though, once she's been on it for a full cycle, she's protected from pregnancy.
All forms of birth control have a failure rate. The pill's failure rate is somewhat lower than the failure rate for condoms, assuming perfect use (same time every day, no skipped pills.)
If you've been together three years and have both been tested for STDs (critical even if you don't think you have anything... some can go undetected) you can dispense with the condoms now that you're using another reliable form of birth control

Birth control pills take effect quickly. It should take about 1-2 weeks to take control. Just on the safe side use a condom for up to 3 weeks.
As to which is safer, the birth control pill is a hell of a lot safer than a condom. Anything can go wrong with a condom. Condom's get holes in the sometimes if there old or have been put some where that they were punctured in some way. Also, there is the possibility of the condom coming off during intercourse. Also some people don't put the condom on until they are ready to com. But there is sperm coming out of the penis the whole time he is in you.
So, yes, the birth control pill is the safest way to go.
I hope this has helped.

Well i would say overall condoms are safer cause there are no possible side effects that could come from the pill but the pill these days is pretty safe. About a month should be safe to not have to use condoms anymore. She has to be sure to take the pill regularly and not miss a dose and also if she is ever put on antibiotics then you have to use a condom cause the antibiotic negates the effectiveness of the pill.

when u start the pill u are supposed to use a condom for a month. i know they are a pain in the butt and can sometimes take away some of the sensation but in all honesty condoms are safer. they protect from all kinds of std's and pregnancy. also there are so many different kinds of condoms that are supposed to help stimulate and everything. also please remember to take the pill at the same time every day. i know someone who was on the pill and didn't know that she had gotten pregnant. when the baby was born he had some pretty serious disabilities plus almost died on the operating table a couple of times. although that kind of thing doesn't happen often it does happen on occasion so with a condom if she got pregnant there is no chemical to cause those kinds of problems.

First of all they say that it can take up to a month for the pill to become effective in your system. Second there is no form of birth control that is 100% effective therefore you should still use condoms even if she is on the pill. Also make sure that she knows that in order for the pill to be the most effective that it is ever going to be she needs to take it at the same time every day.
As far as for health risks condoms are safer. Birth control pills can be hazardous to your health but that is rare. But for your best chances of not getting pregnant you should use both. I hope this helps. GOOD LUCK.

Keep using the condoms for at least the whole first month she's on the pill, or else you're risking a pregnancy. It takes them a whole month to really get working right.
As for safer, the condoms prevent the spread of STD's and the pill doesn't, but the pill is more effective for a contraceptive. And there are some possible side effects of the pill, such as weight gain.
If you're in an honest, monogamous relationship, and neither one of you has an STD, then I think that the pill is the better bet. But if either one of you has other partners, or if you have tested positive for an STD or you think one of you might have one, you should keep on using the condoms too.

Not dumb at all. You'd be surprised how many people think the pill starts automatically. It takes 7 days. If you two are exclusive, and not having sex with anyone else, and both have been tested for STD's, having sex w/ just the pill is more effective than a condom alone. Both would be nice, but I know reality. That's how I got pregnant w/ my first baby. lol. The pill has something like a 97-99% success rate if taken every day at the same time. It's very important to take it at the same time every day. Good luck

Well it only takes the pill about 7 days to be effective, but if you are concerned then wait a month. Word to the wise because I ended up getting pregnant this way, only because I was uninformed, if she gets sick and is put on ANY TYPE of ANTIBIOTIC use back up methods like a condom because it will cause her PILL to become INEFFECTIVE! Something else you could use along with the birth control pill just for some extra reassurance is a lubricant that kills off sperm and you can find it in the condom isle.

I would definately use both - I was on the pill for a couple weeks and had sex with my boyfriend of four years and got pregnant...i was only 16. The pill is very iffy because there is always the risk of forgeting to take it. I havent been on any birth control yet, we just use condoms EVERY time.

no no no...it's never dumb to be asking questions like this. i am actually impressed to see your want for knowledge in the subject. more people need to be as proactive. first, the pills should be completely effective after a month. but i say keep doing them both! in a perfect world, that keeps the stress level down a ton! if you MUST only rely on the pill, I suggest that you SINCERELY evaluate the woman and how much you care for her. 1) is she responsible to not miss a pill, 2) does she seem like she wants a baby, 3) if something goes wrong, would you want to have a child with her. all these factors are of major importance. i personally am not ready for a child, but i know that i am not responsible enough to remember to take pills. i simply forget. so i use the patch. and that's what i mean, evaluate and determine what's best for your relationship. good luck.
