The Blues Brothers is an actual band, and a damned good one at that. Dan Akroyd and John B were only involved in the movie, not the band.

Yes they were. They were serious too. They were a comedy routine on Saturday Night Live (back in its heyday). They enlisted Steve Cropper, Duck Dunne and some other legitimate blues musicians and they were fairly decent.
In fact the soundtrack for the movie The Blues Brothers was recently voted the best movie soundtrack ever in England.
Originally from Chicago, I really dug the Chicago scenes in the movie, check it out!

yes they were. they got created in the saturday night live skit and both of them took the band and the characters on the road before making the movie.
i love both blues brothers movie
