Because the federal government is a limited government of enumerated powers. As defined in the Constitution, both Article I and the 10th Amendment. There is no general federal police power to control activities like drugs nor authority to regulate the medical profession
The only way Congress can pass drug-control laws is by arguing that the drug business affects interstate commerce. So, the entire slate of federal drug laws is based on commercial business regulation.
Which is ridiculous, but that's the way the phrase "necessary and proper" is interpreted -- any law vaguely resembling being related is considered necessary and proper.
Absent such an interpretation, and even with it, the federal government has no authority to regulate the practice of medicine. So, states that pass medical marijuana laws should be well within the sole purview of the states.
Unfortunately, we have a Congress that wants to be able to control anything, regardless of what the Constitution says. And an Attorney General (previous and present) who supports that.

For the same reasons they make their own liquor laws--they think they know what is best for their citizens.
FYI--since it is illegal at the Federal level, it doesn't matter what the states do. Federal law always trumps state law. They started arresting people in states that allowed it for medicinal purposes.
Good luck.

States make decisions on laws all the time and I feel that marijuana should be one of them. It certianly would help out the people that use it for medical purposes.

It is a federal offense to sell and distribute marijuana in any state except for medicinal purposes.
The states can decide if or when medicinal purposes are in order.

Why not. State laws are a privilege of the state. Superior Court is considered a "state" court.

i don't have any sources, but states should construct their own marijuana laws because if it was legalized, there would be less of it around. many ppl only do it because it is illegal. if it was legalized, i'm sure ppl wouldn't do it b/c the thrill of it would be gone

Why Not?
Isn't it in the constitution that anything not in the constitution is the state's delegation... There's nothing about drugs in the constitution, therefore, it's unconstitutional to have it not be delegated by the states.

Personally I dont think that they she make any laws about drugs. Its the peoples lifes and if they want to do drugs then let them do it. And no I dont do drugs......
And if this is for homework or something then maybe they should make laws for because they dont want to get people to spread it around and kill people, or they dont want kids to be influenced by it.
