What do you do to wake yourself up...the FIRST time the alarm goes off. (I can not drink coffee or drink soda)

Wow same here.

The truth is you just have to suck it up. Tell yourself not to be a puss. When you hear your alarm just say to yourself "dont be a pussy". Try it, it really works.

Well the average person only needs 8 hours of sleep so if you decide to wake up at 6 AM, then go to bed at 10 PM. Then put your alarm clock on the other side of your room so you have to get up to turn it off. After that, hop into the shower; warm things always wake people up. If you can't have coffee then try tea or something else warm with your breakfast. If these tips don't work, then I don't know what to tell you.

Put your alarm clock far enough away from your bed so you have to get out of your bed to turn it off. On Mondays and Wednesdays, even though it's tempting, try not to sleep in too much or you will have problems waking up for school the next day.

Eating Breakfast helped me a lot though my three years and taking a small walk around campus before class started.

How to Catch Your ZZZs

Here are some tips to help you catch all the ZZZs you need:

* Try to go to bed at the same time every night; this helps your body get into a routine.
* Follow a bedtime routine that is calming, such as taking a warm bath or reading.
* Limit foods and drinks that contain caffeine. These include sodas, chocolate, and coffee-flavored ice cream.
* Don't have a TV in your room. Research shows that kids who have one in their rooms sleep less. If you have a TV, turn it off when it's time to sleep.
* Don't watch scary TV shows or movies close to bedtime because these can sometimes make it hard to fall asleep.
* Don't exercise just before going to bed. Do exercise earlier in the day - it helps a person sleep better.
* Use your bed just for sleeping - not doing homework, reading, playing games, or talking on the phone. That way, you'll train your body to associate your bed with sleep.

First off, get used to the real world, soon you'll be wakin up every day at 7am. The reason I say that is because I speak from experience (I used to be in college). The best thing for me, I utilize the snooze button on my alarm clock for like 50 minutes, with 6 or 7 minute intervals, the more and more you hit that snooze button and the more and more you wake up thru the 50 minutes. Gradually by the end you can muster up enough juice to get your day goin because your body wakes up a little more each time...works every time.

Don't go to bed any later than 11pm. Don't drink, party, do drugs, or anything hard or strenuous the night before. If you need to drink a cup of tea or coffee in the morning and have some and/or a soda or 2 during the day. Stay active. Fall asleep as fast as you can and don't wake up during the night. Don't put the snooze on more than once. Shower in the morning.

Start "training" yourself now and make a routine. Wake yourself up with enough time to get yourself together every day for a few weeks and you'll get yourself on a new schedule. I say start now so that if you screw up and oversleep it won't matter. It'll suck at first but you can do it!

As for the alarm - set it maddeningly loud and put it across the room where you have to physically get up out of bed to turn it off (or hit the snooze button). You'll be less likely to roll over and go back to sleep if you can't just smack it to the floor.

Good luck!

I love to sleep in... unfortunately, I've never been good with the alarm on the first try.

What worked for me, (and still does) is to set multiple alarms in the AM... set them for about 4 -5 minutes apart -- that way, you'll get them inbetween the snooze alarms and you'll be getting out of bed. Oh yea, put at least one of them AWAY from the bed, so you Have to get out of the bed to turn it off.

Shower and lay out your clothes (or just sleep in what you are going to wear if they are comfy clothes like sweats) the night before -- make sure your things are all ready to go.

Start to cut back on how late you are staying up at night and set your alarm for earlier in the morning than you are getting up right now.

Keep cutting it back until you're going to bed early enough to get enough sleep and able to get up early enough for your class.

And if it doesn't work as well as it should, put your alarm clock across the room so you will be forced to get out of bed to turn it off and then you'll be up anyway and will get your day underway.

Go to bed early and let the alarm keep going off until I get out of bed and into the shower.

When the alarm goes off, think of something that motivates you to get up, say seeing a friend or going to a certain class or eating breakfast. Works for me.
