It is a fact that great leaders lead by example. Mahatma Gandhi advocated a simple life & non-violence and he incorporated the change in himself first. He wore simple clothes, lived on a vegetarian diet, washed his own clothes, and showed no effort in acquiring wealth. As he became a leader, he did not advocate any kind of non-violence to achieve political means. He started the civil disobedience movement, which was built on the concept of non-violence. If you see the movie, Gandhi, there is a scene where his followers just march up to the policemen to get beaten. After one group of followers get beaten. Another group of followers just march up to the policemen to get beaten. They don't raise a hand against a policeman!

He became the change he wanted to see in people.

Absolutely. I've seen the results - by changing your own ways, you affect the space around you. It begins with your family, friends, your workplace or school, your community... and spreads out from there. The translation "Be the change you want to see in the world" is actually my email signature.

Here are some other words of wisdom, used often by my fiance who is a youth worker, that reinforce the concept -

Everyone can be an example to others. It's your choice whether you want to be a good example, or a bad one.

Yes. Do unto others as you would want done unto you. This is known as the Golden Rule and can be found in the Bible.

I'm unfamiliar with the quote, but taking it on face value, I'd say it's the same as "walk the walk". So I would agree.

If you realise what is the change needed for and even if you have changed what if it doesnot affect anybody in anyway. What was the purpose of your change......? When will everything change for which you have changed?

Words are easy to use and fun to put them together in a remarkably intelligent way. But does this work??? how many times has it worked.
This very man who quoted this changed for his nation.... but does the nation now realise how much it has changed from what he changed for and for who?
Changes dont stay for long..... BE WHAT YOU ARE.

"You must become the change you want to see" has been said many times and in many languages by different philosophers.

"If you pretend to be a hero thoroughly enough, in time you wont be pretending."

"Any illusion, given great enough detail, becomes a twin of the reality it simulates and, as such, is no longer an illusion."

On a Quantum level we are able to manipulate matter with our thoughts ( or just by observing it) So to have a thought is to set in motion a quantum possibility, if this possibility is able to come to fruition is left to other external (and internal ) forces.
