IT's on the BBC news health frontpage, there's now 1 billion overweight people in the world while 800 million suffer from lack of food. Why are fat people so greedy, and don't tell me is because of genetics, i've heard that before. STOP EATING!!!!!!!!!!!

The fat acceptance movement makes me sad. While some fat people are fat because of reasons other than their diet and lifestyle, I do think that most people who are fat are that way because of their own actions. I accept their being fat (as in, I'm not going to tell them that they need to lose twenty pounds in ten days or go to jail), but what I do not accept is that I'm not allowed to call them fat. Umm, hello. Yes, you're fat. And I'm skinny. Some people are a normal weight/size. Some people are gay. Some are straight. Some people are black. Some are white. Some people are religious. Some are not. We don't have a problem with acknowledging someone's sexuality, race, or religion. Why is it that we can't talk about people's size?

It isn't only fat people who are greedy. Anyone who eats meat is being greedy. To get a cow to be a pound heavier, you have to feed it about sixteen pounds of grain. Considering this, picture yourself sitting at a dinner table that seats sixteen. You have a thick juicy steak. The other fifteen people have nothing to eat, and instead have to watch you eat your steak. Wouldn't it be better for everyone to have some healthy, hearty grains instead? Then all sixteen of you can eat and be healthier beside. Now if being vegeterian or vegan meant that one would be in poorer health, naturally I would have nothing against eating an animal. But since it is perfectly possible to be perfectly healthy on an animal-free diet (cases in point, my boyfriend and I, who are vegan and healthier and happier than anyone we know), it's really just as inexcusable to eat animals as it is to be fat.

I hadn't heard that stat from the BBC (that there are now a billion overweight people in the world). I find it sick and depressing. For the fat people who are fat because of their diet: I have no sympathy for you. You're hurting yourself, and if it's meat-based things that make you that fat (which is the case unless it's the french fries or things like that that you're eating), then you're hurting plenty of other people too. Examine your diet both for your sake and for others. Don't you want to be healthy? Wouldn't you enjoy living for a long time? Wouldn't you like to avoid paying for triple-bypass surgeries?

Once everyone in the world has enough food and there's some left over, feel free to get fat on it. I don't mind. At that point, you're hurting only yourself—and if you don't have a problem with that, I don't see why I should.

some people are over weight because of genetics, others just have really poor diets, and most of all, the world doesn't have their priorities straight. a lot of the countries where malnourishment is a major problem are poor because bigger countries come in, take control of the countries valuable nature resources, pay the leaders this tiny bit about that can't put food on anyones table, and then run off with the profits. thats why these countries can't afford to feed their people because bastards like bush are greedy and can't stop exploiting others

Yeah I know, the White Sox scored 12 runs in the first game of their double header and won and only 3 runs in the second game and lost. Isn't it almost the same thing? Not really, but the fact that your pointing out such an obvious issue, shows that even in the perfect world there are going to be some some fortunate ones and some not so fortunate

Look at how those populations are distributed in terms of wealth and lifestyle. That's important.

I do agree that, at the end of the day, people have to take personal responsibility for themselves, though, if they are obese. Yes, the McDonalds is on the way home, but driving by works just as well as a quadruple triple pounder.

If someone is starving, and there's no more food, then obviously it's not a matter of choice to eat more.
