The Da Vinci Code is a fictional book that focuses on a very complex story created around Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene. The main idea is the fact that Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene and they also had children. There children, Christ's bloodline exist even today and they are protected by the Priory of Sion. They also are the protectors of the Holy Grail...which in Dan Brown's book is said to be Mary Magdalene. He also says that Da Vinci was a member of this organization and he even painted in the his Last Supper masterpiece the connection between Jesus and Mary. She is supposed to be in that painting.
No specialists agree with Brown and even Brown in the book states that there are some fictional passages. This is a very short explanation...if you want to discuss it and want to know more let me know, I'd be happy to help.

The book makes more sense. It is written by Dan Brown....you should read the prequel first though 'Angels & Demons' (it helps you understand what's going on a whole lot better) It is based on books that belong in the bible but the church decided would not fit their porpuse so did not include. There is acually a religon that follows these book's teachings but i can not remember their name...if i do i'll let you know.
i've read both books....The Davinci Code is more art oriented and Angels & Demons is more actoin packed but i loved them both

Leonardo had SUCH a head cold that he could hardly catch his breath, and as Vicks hadn't been invented yet...

So, to this day....such an amount of phlegm and mucus is often called the "Davinci Cold"

A book based on one of several musings on the holy grail. Some Christians get their panties in a bunch because it makes suggestions against their faith -- while some other people actually believe it's true.

But it was never meant to masquarade as a religious text, and it was never supposed to be confused as truth. It's a fictional novel.

It is an excellent work of fiction (a novel or book) first and foremost. It has a good deal of historically accurate information in it.
As a movie it was palatable, yet left quite a bit to be desired (most great books are to encompassing to transpose to film).
The title the Da Vinci code refers to the main subject/character's method of leaving clues as to whom/what it was that was responsible for his death.
