I have had my computer and cd drive 4 about 3 years now and it has been having alot of problems with the drive lately. At first, all it was having trouble with was reading audio cd's, but everything else worked and it would read the disk after a while of it being in there, or it would randomly work then not work. Now I'm trying 2 use a normal game and it won't work. no other disks I've tried have worked, so it's not a format problem. It won't even recognize that there is a disk in the drive.

o and I'm pretty sure it's not a connection problem cuz when I put a cd in and put the tray thing back, It shows the little disk symbol by the cursor. The drive (only the drive, not the disk) also shows up in my computer when I try 2 access the disc.

Actually, it's only a cd drive. I was looking into getting a dvd drive, though, so I'll remember that post if the dvd drive breaks down.

sorry, replace it, it is bad, and it is not cost effective to have it worked on. it will cost more in labor then it would cost you to replace it with a new one.

do not put a pin or anything in the tiny hole just below the actual drive, un-till ther power has been remove from the back of the pc some idiots tell you to do that with out saying remove the power frist there the stupid people always remove the power frist befor you put a pin in tiny hole just below the actual drive,

ok click on start / run ..type in the box
msconfig
click on ok
then on the box that pops up click on services tab
now look in the list for
IMAPI-CD-BURNING COM SERVICE
make sure there is a tick make in that box
if there is not
put a tick make in the box
then click on apply & ok
then restart the pc
when your back at the desktop
a box will pop up click on
downt show this again then click ok
now if there is a tick in that box just click on the condel tab at the bottom
and try a music cd in the drive that is not working if the music cd's dont work your need to just buy a new one

Over the years I had to replace many CD ROMS because they had trouble reading I've got about 20 spare part ones now . But sometimes I fix them by opening up the buggers and cleaning the lense eg. remove dismantle (some special tools and a little knowlege) vaccum and wipe the lense reinstall and woops as good as new (1out of 5). The problem is the speed of (reading speed) of most CD's goe's up and the old CDroms can't cope.
Take care

The 16x DVD-ROM only reads CD's & DVD's. That's it! There might be a chance u can only read DVD +R or -R. Or it might not read DVD RW's.

With the 16x DVD+/-RW with Dual Layer, u can burn CD's, DVD's (+, - & RW formats) and u can burn dual layer DVD's.

You also can make On-the-Fly copies of both CD's & DVD's using both drives.
On-the-Fly means making a copy of a disc w/o storing the file in your Hard Drive first.

*If it's a DVD Movie u wanna copy, that takes a little more work & some research to do.

you've a abode windows XP improve disk (I do too, even inspite of the undeniable fact that i created a "fake" XP Disk by technique of burning my i386 folder to a disk so i might want to deploy with no previous OS on my gadget) The improve disk is in case you had before offered a Microsoft operating gadget in uncomplicated words. you may both do what I defined above (making use of yet another pc), borrow a (complete) abode windows disk from a pal, OR purchase an complete deploy version. there is not any opposite direction round it :-(

CD drives are riiculously cheap these days, just replace it. If you're not comfortable doing it yourself, any reputable shop will do it quite inexpensively.
