The Dell 8400 series has been having numerous issues with the harddrives crashing, it appears that dell recieved a bad lot of drives. If you can not even get your bios to recognize the drives then data recovery will become very expensive. As for fixing the drive sorry its not going to happen, call dell make a complaint and have them send you a new drive.

I've never had a neither drive. Did DELL sneak in and disable your computer the day the warrantee ran out?

It seems very odd that more than 1 drive would fail at the same time. Has anybody been inside the box? Check the cable that goes to the neither drives, maybe it is loose.

Make sure your Bios is set right CHECK if your BIos has recognized both drives you may have to set the Ide settings to Auto and or save .
Also make sure if you have Installed another new dirve that one is set to master and the other to slave.
Make a change if you still got trouble eg. remove the slave and see if the system starts then.
If you just about to install a new one make sure you format(and Fdisk sometimes) the new drive.Your install disc can do that for you read the instructions if nec.
Take care

The first thing to do is to check that the cable didn't come loose. The odds that both drives died at the same time is pretty slim.
