It means the picture can't be displayed, as you know. I think it is caused by:

CAUSE
This behavior can occur if one of the following conditions is true: • The Web page includes an image type that is not supported by Internet Explorer.
• The Show Pictures check box is not selected on the Advanced tab of the Internet Options dialog box, or the Toggle Images.exe Web accessory was used to disable images in Internet Explorer.
• The image is displayed based on a script, ActiveX control, cookie, Java applet, or HTTP referral information, and your computer or network is configured to block one or more of these features. For example, you may have Internet Explorer or Symantec Corporation's Norton Internet Security (NIS) or Norton Personal Firewall (NPF) 2002 configured to block one or more of these features.
• Internet Explorer cannot determine the character set (also called code page or encoding) that is used by the Web page, or a file or registry key required to display the Web page with the appropriate character set may be missing or damaged. By default, Internet Explorer uses the character set that is specified in the HTTP content type that is returned by the server, the character set specified by the meta element in the Web page document, or your Encoding preference if no HTTP content type is returned by the server and no meta element is specified in the Web page document.

hope this helps

It means that the code behind the webpage is telling it to display a certain image in that spot, but for some reason it can not display it, wither because it can't find it or it isn't the correct format, or somities just because your connection cut out in the middle of downloading the page. 99% of the time it has nothing to do with anything on you end(the 1% being your connection) so there isn't much you can do to fix it. If you hit refresh once or twice and and the image still does not show up, then there is nothing you can do about it.

It means that the link to the image is broken- most likely the image is no longer on the server, so the box with the little red x serves as a placeholder where the image was supposed to be.

It means there's an image that isn't displaying properly. It could be a problem with the page or it could be a problem with your browser's interaction with the page. If you have an up-to-date browser, it's probably the first problem, and then there's nothing you can do about it.

It measns that the file for that picture is missing, there might be an error in the HTML of the page or the file has been removed..

Usually it's because somebody is trying to display a photo that is not posted on the internet yet. You have to find a hosting site for the photo, and THEN post it on your page.

One good hosting site is
http://www.imageevent.com
