I breed chinchillas and currently have about 110 of them. They make great pets. They are very social and love to interact with humans. You do have to be careful about what they eat. Chinchillas in the wild only eat dried foods. Many people think chinchillas are like rabbits and give them fruits and vegetables, but this will make a chinchilla very sick and it will not live as long. Chinchillas should only be fed chinchilla pellets and hay with a raisin as an occasional treat. They also need to stay cool so you need to have an air-conditioned house that stays below 75 degrees.

I was about to get a chinchilla when I was much younger. My mom took me to the pet store to look for a pet for me, and the owner showed us the chinchilla and what I learned (and remember now) is that they are very very nervous animals and must have a lot of caring attention. Nevertheless, they are adorable and I still wish I had one!

Well, I know I'm about to get one soon and I've read all about them. They dont shed or smell but they do take dust baths wwhich you could possibly sneeze from. They like to eat hay and occasional snacks. And they don't do so well with high temperature and humidity. I like them, and I chose to get one because they don't shed, they're cute, they're fun and exotic in a way.

I don't have one, but my best friend does. They can be really scared and timid, but if hand raised they like to be held. They are really soft and like to roll in dust. They sleep best in jars, as they live in burrows in the wild. They have cute little toes on their feet. They eat veggies, hers likes lettuce and spinach alot. She took it in as a favor to a friend, as the friend's rabbits were mean to it. My friend has ferrets and they have adopted the chinchilla. I like them, but they are very timid.

My friend had one. It was cool. Real soft. Don't bathe it in water (water ruins the fur) and if you let it out of the cage, watch out, it was hard to catch.
