It is very easy..nothing to be nervous about. If you have been told to drink a lot of water, though, it is a little uncomfortable. Basically you just lay back and let the tech do the work. Nothing to it.. :o) I am assuming at 12 weeks it is just a topical ultrasound, rather than vaginal? They should have told you beforehand. With the regular one, they just lay you flat on the table, put some goop on your tummy to assist them in using the ultrasound and move it around until they find what they are looking for. Good luck!

They'll have you pull your pants down to the public line, then they will put jelly on your tummy. They use this device to look at the baby with. They usually get all the measurements that they need first, then they'll say this is the head, the heart, the legs, etc. Since you're only at 12 weeks, I don't think they'll be able to tell what the sex of the baby is yet. I'd bring a VHS tape because sometimes they can video tape it. Good luck and have fun.

Oh it's fun to get to see your baby for the first time. Don't forget to take a tape with you; they can usually send it back home so you can watch it later.
Ultrasounds don't hurt at all. They just rub gel on your tummy and run the instrument over your belly so you can see your baby on a screen. Your doctor will tell you what's what. It's hard to tell sometimes.
It may still be too early to tell the sex of the baby.

Oh-the 12 week ultrasound is beautiful. You can see your baby for the first time-see his beautiful heart beating and his little arm buds moving. It is wonderful-good luck and see if they can videotape or give you a photo. Lots of luck!

calm down it will be alright.you will be pretty much speachless,it's amazing when you see your baby for the first time.it's got me thinking back on my first ultrasound.wish i could do it all over again time passes so quick.but i would like to tell you before they take you back try shaking your belly to get the baby awake and moving or you might not find out what it's gonna be, my baby was hard headed took 4 ultrasounds before i found out.

I loved getting my first ultrsound!! That is the best feeling in the world seeing your baby for the first time. There's nothing like it. And the second one is even better! They did mine with 3-D. You can actually see the baby's features and everything! It's awesome! Best wishes and good luck!

They will put a cold gel on your belly, then rub the handle around your belly. If you had the babies heart beat checked yet, it is just about the same but you can watch the baby on the tv. She will probably have to tell you what you are looking at.
That's about it. Have fun

my 12 week one is on Monday but i had to have an emergency one due to bleeding last week and it was AMAZING. You will be amazed by how clear it is. The baby was facing us kicking its arms and legs. I cried.
