fine line here... I think the reality is that we are overworked... we are seeing our weekly hours increase, but our pay stay at what it was 5 years ago. Not to mention inflation... our rate of pay has not kept up w/ inflation in the US basically since the 1980s!

As a Canadian who has worked in economics and public policy, my opinion is that the average American is underpaid - especially those working at or close to the minimum age. Most other countries have considerably higher minimum wage rates. In my field, Americans are paid less at similar levels compared to those in other countries. On the other hand, senior corporate executives in American companies have obscene salaries and other benefits.

Speaking as an American I think it is safe to say that nobody in the US is underpaid. The truth is that those that say they are underpaid usually are living far beyond their means, and not even trying to make ends meet .The reason is that here in the US we have to many safety nets(social programs).Anyone that thinks they are underpaid might want to look and see what others in the world are earning for a living. If you make $5.50 per hour this would put you in about the top 20% of the worlds richest people.Check out what people in Bolivia make per year sometime.

No. I think many Americans think they are entitled to everything they want, so they go into debt to get it. I am dismayed by the number of people who cry poverty while driving an upscale car, talking on a cell phone, taking pictures with their digital camera then downloading them on their computer, listening to music on their Ipod or satellite radio, watching big screen TV with surround sound, and carrying home fast food on a whim. THAT is not poverty. That is conspicuous spending. That is why so many people can't make ends meet.

If they are it's their own fault. It's the country with the greatest opportunities on earth and anyone who has the guts can go off on their own and make all the money they want to.
I was born in a ghetto and grew up without a dad because he was killed when I was three and my mom had three kids with me the oldest. He left no insurance and we lived in govornment housing, but I still ended up owing my own business and making over $85,000 a year.
I see too many people whining about the breaks and wanting sopmeone to hand it to them, well sorry Charlie get off you duff and earn it.

Yes, especially young adults just emerging from college.
The government wants you in debt so that they can control you.
50 year mortgages are now available because you can't qualify for a mortgage making $7.50 an hour.
You'll have to dump your kids in daycare because you'll need at least two people to equal half an income.

Considering as an example how illiterate and uneducated most people appear on Yahoo! Answers, I think they are paid too much.
