It should be distilled so I would recommend you use your plants for skincare and buy a bottle of George's Aloe for oral use it tastes like nothing but water but you can add organic juices to it and it is awesome and the best I have found!

Making Aloe juice at home is not as effective as purchasing it from a manufacture that specializes in that. It is important to make sure that it is all natural. Aloe juice is great for your digestion system.

Herbalife makes a great one that is reasonable priced and also has a pleasant citrus flavor.

i've never used the fresh plant, but i hear it is the best way to take it. if you don't already, squeeze the juice out and don't consume the outer part. i use food grade gel that comes in a bottle and just mix it into a smoothie with fruit, yogurt, coconut milk and maple syrup. if you can still taste it try adding less the next time.

I would guess they filter it somehow. You may have to google and ask the internet about homemade aloe vera juice.
