I seem to recall that Evil Kanevil's (sp) son jumped it a few years back or at least attempted to do so.

No... even at its narrowest part, the Grand Canyon is more than 5 miles across (in most places it is 8 to 15 miles across). Near Lee's Ferry, the river flows through Glen Canyon which is quite a bit narrower (a couple hundred yards), but I have not heard of anybody even trying there (and that is not the actual Grand Canyon either).
In 1999, stuntman Robby Kenievel (son of the famous Evel Kenievel) jumped a rocket-powered motorcycle across a very small minor drainage canyon that branched off the side of the Grand Canyon in the Hualapai Indian reservation to the west of the National Park. This little side-canyon was only 150 feet across and 75 feet deep - not even very big for a side canyon (as one local said "This is barely a wash in this country").
An impressive jump (and a certainly fatal fall if he fell), but still is nothing compared to the actual Grand Canyon which would be virtually impossible to jump with any land vehicle. Despite the fact that he was not jumping over the actual Grand Canyon, it was touted as such by Las Vegas promoters.

Yes, people have jumped.
With a parachute, I don't know.
There are an average of 7 deaths a year at the grand Canyon.

Just kidding. I don't think anybody can jump the entire distance across. Even at it's more narrow portions you are talking about at least a mile.
