There isn't a law that says you receive health benefits based on a number of hours worked. Generally, this is left up to individual providers who DECIDE to offer coverage for an employee. Typically, employers want 20+ hours per week to even offer same.

It varies from job to job, but at least in New Jersey you have to work a thousand hours a year and that is 20 hours a week to qualify. I don't think New York would be very different.

Most employers want you to be a permanent full time employee before giving health benefits.
