i leave the door open during the day because i have a screened door to let the fresh air in. i close the door at night, but leave the windows open.

It depends. Interior house doors closed. Exterior house door closed and locked. Car door closed and locked.
Door to my sole usually opened.

I close it with it locked. Both front door and car door. This is 2006, you never know who'll break in. It's sad. VERY SAD!! People need to respect other's property...

Well.......... if you leave your door open, where I live.. you will soon come eye to eye with a southern copperhead snake..
my relative found one in her house and so did her neighbor... I chased two of them back into the woods where I live. I'm not afraid of snakes... the last one that I saw I almost stomped his head. but didn't......... a southern copperhead is a pretty snake but is poisonous.
"O" Wise One......... says don't get bitten.
