A neighbor of mine is in dire need. She has just become divorced and their husband took the only car they had. She is a cancer patient with a dissabled son (down syndrom along with many other complications) and a teenage daughter. She cant work so they are pretty much living off of the sons dissability check and now they are on foot. The sons needs to go to the doctor very often as well as his mom due to the cancer,. Does anyone know of an orginazation where maybe they can get a used vehicle at no cost or close to nothing? I know there are programs where people can donate their cars and get a tax break, I was thinking if those cars are given to the needy. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

This is a noble undertaking and you are to be commended for your consideration. the world would be infinitely better off if there were great numbers of persons like you. If I had an extra car, i would give it to you. If I were you, I would make an appointment with a number of the ministers andpastors in your area. explain the situation. Many times, there are persons in their congregations that will happily donate a car to such a thing. I think they will. Go for it and God bless the bunch of you. Of course, there will be those out here who overlook it and continue to bash and cuss at those who would donate a car to them. there will always be the maniacs. Just ignore them and do your deal with this family. The father must be a real work of art to abandon his family like that.

I would call all the Cancer associations. I do not know what kind she has. I know they offer transportation to treatments.
Look up an organization for downs syndrome. Call each and everyone of them and the United Way. Tell them the whole story and see if they can help, if not who they think can.
What the heck if that gets you no where call all the used car sales men nd do a letter to the editor in the paper asking for help.
There may be way. You won't get anything if you quit asking.
After all she ain't askin for a limo.
I googled this one 1-800 charity cars

I don't know about a car, but if she is going to the hospital for chemo or radiation the hospital may be able to provide transportation for her appointments.

For her son, go to the Downs syndrome organization and see what they have in the way of scholarships (aid) that can be applied for. (We did this for my mother's illness and received help).

Also, check with the township and see if they have a township taxi service. Ours has one that is $1 a ride for people that need help.

She also needs to take ex-hubby to court and get court ordered support for her son and daughter. That would also help ease up the financial problem.

There must be ahot line or some way of finding out how to get a car that has been donated. Maybe salvation army, maybe check google for donated cars for cancer, type in any info you can.
what area does she live in, what about medicade or transportation for elderly, mayber her doctor could even send her to help at her own hospital.
